Explora Books will host a virtual book signing event with novelist Claudette McLennon at the 2026 Beijing International Book Fair, held from June 17–21 at the China National Convention Center (CNCC) in Beijing. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the author and explore her debut novel, Sins of the Parents, at the Explora Books exhibition booth 5A.B14.
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, 2nd Jun 2026 – Sins of the Parents is a work of literary fiction that follows Marlene Henderson Tulloch as she reflects on her life during her final weeks in a New York hospice. Born in Jamaica and orphaned at a young age, Marlene grew up under the care of a grandmother who blamed her for her mother’s death in childbirth. The novel traces her experiences through childhood hardship, migration, family life, and adulthood as she works to reconcile painful memories and relationships shaped by loss and resentment.

Structured around Marlene’s reflections near the end of her life, the narrative moves between her upbringing in Jamaica and her years in New York, exploring the long-term effects of family conflict, displacement, and emotional trauma across generations. Through Marlene’s perspective, the novel examines themes of forgiveness, resilience, and personal reconciliation.
One pivotal moment in the novel features a conversation between Marlene and her grandmother, who admits responsibility for years of emotional harm. The exchange illustrates the novel’s exploration of accountability and forgiveness within fractured family relationships.
McLennon writes in the acknowledgments of the novel, “May we learn the act of true charity and kindness in loving our neighbors as ourselves,” reflecting the compassion and reflection that inform the story’s emotional core.
The novel is expected to appeal to readers of Caribbean diaspora, multigenerational family fiction, and character-driven literary narratives centered on identity, migration, and healing.
Born in Islington, St. Mary, Jamaica, Claudette McLennon later migrated to the United States, where she built a career in public service spanning more than three decades. She holds degrees from Medgar Evers College and Long Island University. In addition to her fiction writing, McLennon has published poetry featured in an anthology. Sins of the Parents is her first novel.
Visitors to the 2026 Beijing International Book Fair are invited to attend the signing event at the Explora Books booth to meet Claudette McLennon virtually and obtain signed copies of Sins of the Parents. For those unable to attend, the book is also available through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other major book retailers.
